Types and Applications of Coke
Coke is a high-carbon product obtained from the pyrolysis of special grades of coal (coking coal). Depending on its purpose and production technology, the following main types are distinguished
  • Blast Furnace Coke (Metallurgical Coke)
Purpose: The primary fuel and reducing agent in the blast furnace process for iron smelting. It forms the "skeleton" of the blast furnace, ensuring gas permeability of the charge.
Key Requirements: High mechanical strength (especially after reaction with CO₂), low sulfur and phosphorus content, stable granulometric composition.
  • Foundry Coke
Purpose: Fuel in cupola furnaces (shaft furnaces) for melting iron in foundry production.
Differences from Blast Furnace Coke: Often has a larger fraction, strength requirements may be slightly lower, but high calorific value and size stability are critical.
  • Coke for Ferroalloys
Purpose: Reducing agent in the production of ferroalloys (ferrosilicon, ferrochrome, etc.).
Key Requirements: Low ash content, high reactivity, specific electrical resistivity.
  • Coke for the Chemical Industry (and Electrode Coke)
Purpose: Raw material for the production of calcium carbide, electrodes, carbon-graphite materials, and also as a sorbent or filler.
Key Requirements: Special requirements for purity (ash content, volatiles), structure, and electrical conductivity.
  • Non-Coking Coal and Coke Breeze (Fine Coke)
Purpose: Used as solid fuel in the energy sector, cement industry, for sintering iron ore raw materials, and as a process additive.
Product Range of Power Core Materials Ltd.
Our company supplies products that comply with strict international standards, sourced from leading domestic producers
  • Supplied Coke Grades
    • Blast Furnace Coke (BF Coke): The main supplied grade, including high-strength varieties.
    • Foundry Coke (FC): Optimal for cupola melting.
    • Coke for Ferroalloys: Selected individually according to the consumer plant's technology.
    • Coke Breeze (Fine Coke): Fraction 0-10 mm, 0-25 mm for sintering and other purposes.
  • Fractional Composition (Granulometry)
We supply coke in a wide range of fractions for various technological tasks:
    • Large Fraction: 60-80 mm, 80-120 mm
Application: Primary charge for large-volume blast furnaces, foundry production.

    • Medium Fraction ("Nut"): 40-60 mm, 25-40 mm
Application: Medium-capacity blast furnaces, optimal size for ensuring gas permeability and strength of the charge column.

    • Fine Fraction (Coke Breeze): 0-10 mm, 10-25 mm, 0-25 mm
Application: Sintering of iron ore raw materials (coke breeze), additive to the charge, solid fuel.

Important: We are ready to discuss the supply of uncoated (standard) or coated coke (treated with lime milk to reduce dust emissions and improve environmental performance).
